Unlike traditional programs that separate hands-on practice from classroom study, at Daylight School you’ll follow a comprehensive and cohesive curriculum alongside professional instructors and photographers.

CLASS SCHEDULE:Tuesday (Theoretical classroom sessions) + Weekend (Fieldwork)

8 in-person classes withthe option to attend online (the classes are recorded).

5 Field Trips: Thedates for the 5 field trips are set in consultation with the participants and take place on weekends.

Course Syllabus: Theory Meets Practice:

Ours is a comprehensive teaching method: we alternate between classroom theory—at our space in Pigneto—and intensive hands-on practice in the field over the weekend. Each lecture serves as the perfect preparation for the field trip that follows, ensuring immediate learning with no gaps in understanding.

The course will follow a logical progression designed to help you build a diverse portfolio that’s marketable in today’s industry. We’ll cover five major areas, starting with understanding natural light and progressing to complete mastery of artificial light:

Street Photography: Dealing with Urban Chaos, Quick Composition, and the Hyperfocal Distance.
Reportage: Constructing a narrative in sequences, with a specific theme assigned and final editing.
Portrait in a Studio:Set up a set in the dark, using single-head lights and classic lighting setups.
Environmental Portrait:Blending the natural light of a location with the use of hot-shoe flashes and continuous lights.
Still Life and Product Photography: Millimeter-level precision on commercial sets and advanced reflection management.
Editing with Lightroom and Critical Review of Photos: The final sessions will be dedicated to advanced editing with Lightroom, a critical review of the portfolio created during the field trips, and career guidance.

The Instructorsfor this course:

Marco Sconocchia is a professional photojournalist based in Rome and London. His work has been published in various national and international newspapers and magazines, including The Guardian, The Independent, Venerdì (a supplement to La Repubblica), Sette, Vice, Vanity Fair, National Geographic, 6 Mois, and others. He has also worked on the editorial staff of Vice UK and is the co-founder of Daylight School alongside Perry Hall.

Ludovica De Santisisan Italian photographer and visual artist who specializes in fine art photography and visual research. Born in Rome in 1991, she moved to Paris in 2011, where she earned a degree in Art History with a specialization in film criticism from the Sorbonne. During her studies, she worked as a photography assistant on film productions and delved deeper into analog photography, developing a style that combines storytelling, cinematic aesthetics, and introspection.

Throughout his career, he has exhibited his work in cities such as Paris, London, Berlin, Dublin, Budapest, Rome, Turin, Marseille, and Zurich. His works have been published and featured in numerous international magazines and platforms dedicated to contemporary photography.

Among her most notable accolades arefirst prize at the 2024 LensCulture Art Photography Awardsfor her project*Onironautica*, selection forthe Athens Photo Festival, a nomination for theGomma Grant, and theJulia Margaret Cameron Foundation Award. She is also the author of the photobook*Zagriz*, and her work explores themes related to dreams, the unconscious, identity, and memory through a visual language that straddles the line between documentary and imagination.

Mariano Doronzo is a documentary photographer based in Rome and Nottingham.Specializing in analog photography and traditional darkroom printing techniques, he develops long-term projects focused on place, memory, and visual identity.Having trained through a two-year mentorship program at Magnum Photos, he combines his artistic practice with teaching courses dedicated to photojournalism and photographic storytelling.
