Let’s meet at the wine shop on Via Macerata to flip through some great photography books, enjoy a glass of wine, and chat with special guests. This gathering is designed for students at our photography school in Rome, but our doors are open to all photography enthusiasts! 

 

At Daylight School, we strongly believe in the value of dialogue, which is why we launched our weekly“Photography Aperitif” event

Our most recent meeting proved to be a success in terms of both attendance and the exchange of ideas, confirming just how essential it is to create spaces where technique gives way to storytelling and inspiration.

A Meeting Place on Via Macerata: Networking and Perspectives

The casual atmosphere of the wine bar on Via Macerata provided the perfect setting for this event. Between one glass and the next, the tables there became lively hubs of conversation.

Our goal as a photography school in Rome has always been to build a strong community. During the cocktail reception, we saw photography enthusiasts, curious visitors, and our own students come together to share their experiences. Barriers came down, allowing everyone to share their photographic vision in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere.

Great Authors and New Discoveries: From William Klein to “Mareterno”

As always, the heart of the Aperitivo Fotografico was the discussion of great photography books and the masters of the image. During this gathering, the conversations spanned a wide range of eras and styles, touching on some of the most influential figures in the history of photography:

“Paris + Klein” is a visual slap in the face. In this masterpiece, William Klein deconstructs the city through chaos, texture, and extreme contrasts. It’s an essential volume that we always study at our photography school in Rome to understand the true urgency of visual storytelling.

Nan Goldin’s *The Ballad of Sexual Dependency* is a brutal, honest, and deeply intimate visual diary. It is an absolute masterpiece of autobiographical photography and an essential work that we always explore at our photography school in Rome to understand the disruptive power of personal storytelling and raw intimacy.

 

  • Nan Goldin:We discussed the emotional impact of her images, in which raw intimacy and personal life become a powerful universal narrative.

In addition to the great classics, we devoted some time to exploring contemporary Italian publishing, leafing through and discussing together the pagesof *Mareterno*, the photography bookby Valeria Tofanelli (who was present at the cocktail party) and Lorenzo Catena. The book sparked a lively discussion among those present, offering valuable insights into how to approach visual storytelling today.

Upcoming Events at Daylight School

This “Aperitivo Fotografico” was wonderful, but it’s just one of the many events that bring our community to life. We’re already planning the next gatherings, ready to fill the wine shop on Via Macerata once again with new books, new authors, and, above all, new stories to tell.
