For the second time, we’ve had the good fortune to bring a major independent documentary to the big screen, with the filmmakers in attendance. Following last year’s success—which featured photographerMike Brodieanddirector Cyrill Lachauer forthe screening of theirfilm Slack—our valuable “all-Pigneto” collaboration withthe Nuovo Cinema Aquila continues. On this occasion,last Thursday, May 21, we had the honor of celebrating one of the most legendary talents on the Italian scene:Marco Pesaresi.
The documentary: an intimate portrait of Marco Pesaresi
Thanks to the presence in the theater ofthe filmmakers—Michela Fragomeni,Elena Padovan,Marta ErikaAntonioli, and Riccardo Caccia—we screened their newproject, *Il Granchio Nudo*, for an exclusive evening. The documentary brings to the big screen the turbulent and fascinating story of the Rimini-based photographer, who passed away prematurely in 2001.
It was a valuable opportunity to present the public with a moving film that delves deep into the soul of Marco Pesaresi and his career as a photographer. The film traces his most significant projects,such as *Underground* and *Rimini*, offering an honest portrait of a fragile individual who is, at the same time, one of the greatest talents in Italian and international photography.
Testimonials and Talks: Dialogue as the Foundation of Teaching
*The Naked Crab* weaves togetherthe personal accounts of friends and family with those of leading figures in the world of photography who have collaborated with Pesaresi on his work—includingDenis Curti and Renata Ferri—into an emotional narrative told through images.
In addition to the creators, who shared the story behind the creation and development of this remarkable independent project, the evening concluded with a high-profile panel discussion. The following speakers took the stage:
Stefano Mirabella: photographer, instructor, and Leica Ambassador.
Marco Sconocchia: photojournalist and founder of Daylight School.
Angelo Raffaele Turetta: a prominent photographer with the Contrasto agency and a close friend of Pesaresi.
Once again, we wanted to bring photography into the real world, stepping outside the classroom. We firmly believe that participation, active listening, and discussion are the true pillars of education and outreach for anyone who wants to study and experience photography in its entirety.
